Introduction

G’day guys, Jesse here from Kingdomes! Today, we’re diving into something we’re really excited about—our Dome & Platform Installed Packages.

We decided to bring this package to the public because, let’s face it, most of our clients are out in rural areas where getting a tradie to show up is like winning the lottery. With so many possible uses for our domes—whether it’s glamping accommodation, a home dome, a healing space, or even an art studio—everyone needs to start with a dome and a platform. So, here we are with a solution that’s as convenient as it is reliable.

Why Choose a Platform Over a Deck?
Our platforms are designed differently from traditional decks. Instead of using decking boards with gaps that let in moisture and bugs, we use particle boards to create a fully sealed surface. This means better protection for your dome from the elements and any unwelcome critters.

Materials and Custom Options
We tailor our platform materials to suit your site conditions, using either H4 treated timber or steel for the bearers and H3 treated timber for the joists. Need something extra durable? We offer upgrades like steel frames and magnesium oxide boards for added strength and fire resistance.

What’s in the Standard Package?
Our standard package includes a platform built up to 600mm off the ground with up to two steps leading to your dome’s front door. If your site needs a higher platform, we can do that too—just let us know! While flooring isn’t included as standard, you can choose from a range of options like floating floorboards, vinyl, carpet, or tiles.

Turnkey Solutions and Personalization
We believe in keeping the ‘WOW’ factor alive, so our packages are all about flexibility and personalization. From basic setups to fully outfitted living spaces, we work with you to create a design that fits your vision and budget. Our goal is to make your King Dome as unique as you are.

Why We Brought These Packages Out

We introduced our Dome & Platform Installed Packages because we noticed a common challenge among our clients—most of them are based in rural areas where tradies are as rare as hen’s teeth. Whether you’re setting up a glamping spot, a cozy home dome, or even a creative space like a healing center or art studio, getting reliable help to build a solid foundation can be tough.

That’s where we come in. We wanted to simplify the process for you by creating a package that covers the essentials—a secure platform to anchor your dome. The most popular choice for this base is an elevated platform, or as most would call it, a deck. But instead of leaving you to figure out the details, we thought, “Why not offer a straightforward, cost-effective package that takes care of the basics?”

This package gives you a solid start, and from there, you can explore other options like custom flooring, internal fit-outs, and even deck extensions. It’s all about giving you a strong foundation to build on, with the flexibility to make it your own.

Platform vs. Deck: What’s the Difference?

Let’s talk about why we call it a “platform” instead of a “deck.” At first glance, they might look pretty similar—they both use joists and bearers on posts, just like a standard deck. But there’s a key difference that matters when you’re setting up a dome.

Traditional decks are built with decking boards that have gaps between them. These gaps are there to allow the wood to expand and contract with the weather. But the downside is that these gaps can let in moisture, wind, and even the odd bug or two.

Instead of decking boards, we use particle boards that seal the entire surface. This means you get a solid, enclosed floor, ready for whatever flooring you want to put down on top. It’s just a more practical choice for what we’re doing here—keeping your dome protected and giving you a solid base to work with.

So, while it’s built a lot like a deck, our platform is designed with a bit more thought into what works best for your dome.

The Materials We Use

Depending on your site’s specific conditions, we use either H4 treated timber or steel for the bearers, and H3 treated timber for the joists. This setup is all about protecting your platform from white ants or termites—it’s not just sturdy, it’s smart. The platform surface itself is typically a sturdy particle board—we tend to use red tongue—but if you’re looking for something even tougher, you can upgrade to magnesium oxide board for added durability and fire resistance.

We love particle boards because they’re fast to lay down, resistant to termites and water, and they seal up your flooring like a dream, keeping out water, wind, bugs, and even the odd snake. But if you want to go all out, we can also upgrade the platform’s frame to be entirely steel, with the baseboards made from magnesium oxide boards.

Standard Package Specs

In our standard package, the platform is built to be a maximum of 600mm off the ground, with up to two steps leading to the front door. Need it higher? No worries! We can build a higher platform if your site calls for it, but this will incur additional costs due to the need for deeper footings, more concrete, and longer posts. We’re all about transparency when it comes to costs, so we’re happy to work on a cost-plus basis to keep everything above board.

We include 1-2 cubic meters of concrete for the footings (depending on dome size) to ensure a solid foundation. We’ll even throw in auger hire for the day if necessary. While flooring isn’t supplied as standard—giving you the freedom to choose your own finish—we can offer it as an additional extra. The most popular choices? Floating floorboards. But if you’re more of a vinyl, carpet, or tiles person, we’re good to go with that too.
